‘2018 Youth Development Camp’ a huge success
Over the past three days 24 of our elite competition swimmers attended an intensive swim camp at the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) facilities in both Thredbo (at altitude) and Canberra. It was a massive 3 days of swimming, racing, collecting data, education, goal setting, team bonding and completing a personal challenge. There were so many highlights of the camp but I think the greatest was the 6 hour hike to the highest peak in Australia, the summit of Mt Kosciuszko where we took some amazing team photos.

During the three days all of our swimmers took part in the following activities:
- 8 hours of pool sessions
- 6 hours of hiking
- 4 hours of lectures and team building games
- every child had a personal goal setting programme
- every child completed the ‘Gold Challenge’ and received an award
- we also had the chance to catch a chairlift to Eagles Nest & ride a bobsled at Thredbo.

I would like to thank every child for their outstanding commitment, attitude & efforts over the entire camp. They were an absolute delight and made the camp not only very successful but also extremely enjoyable for all that attended.
For a camp to be this successful takes months of planning, 100’s of hours of preparation and a team of dedicated volunteers. I really want to thank Shawn, Anne-Marie & Mandy for their tireless efforts in looking after the team and helping make the camp the success that it was.
I also want to thank Trudi our coach who volunteered her time to spend the weekend coaching the kids that she obviously cares so much about.
And I want to send a huge thank you on behalf of everyone on the camp to our head coach Joe Grant. It was obvious to everyone on camp that Joe had spent a huge amount of time preparing high performance squad sessions and developing individual goal programmes for ever swimmer on camp. Without a doubt Joe helped make this camp the amazing success that it was.

We now have the task of bringing this new enthusiasm and knowledge back to training and let it spread amongst the rest of our wonderful club as a new generation of leaders step up for the competition year ahead. We are already well into planning our next camp and hope to expand on the number that can attend to help develop our members into the best swimmers that they can be.
Yours Faithfully
